PATTERN INFO

Scrappy Yoke Sweater is the one pattern you need to use up all of those one-skein wonders in your stash, or to work through partial skeins and leftover yarns from past projects. Get that bin of scraps out and make yourself a beautiful new sweater - without spending a dime on supplies! This pattern is super fun to work, but also easy for inexperienced colorwork knitters - the floats are never longer than 3 stitches, and only 2 colors are ever worked at the same time.

Scrappy Yoke Sweater is worked from the top down, in the round, seamlessly. The short collar is casted on and knitted before a few short rows are worked to shape the back neck. Yoke increases are worked mostly on one-color rounds (another plus for colorwork beginners!) and separating for sleeves is - as well, worked in one color stockinette. The lower body continues with the colorwork motif, after which the sleeves are worked. Choose between short sleeves, long straight sleeves (with just a few decreases at the upper arm) or taper your sleeves all the way to the cuff for a more fitted look. So many options, and that’s before you even get to choosing the colors!

The pattern is written for use with 4 colors - as the sample shows. But, you can use as many colors as you’d like! Blank charts are provided to help you get creative. Print them out and get artsy to see how your color combination idea will look together. This is bound to be an exciting adventure! So many scrappy sweaters ahead!

GAUGE

24 sts x 28 rows in stockinette/colorwork in 4” / 10 cm, in the round.

Make sure you swatch with all yarns you will be using - especially if you will include a fuzzy suri alpaca/mohair, and yarns held double. You may need to switch needle sizes as you work with different yarns, to keep the gauge consistent. When a colorwork section is worked with yarns that require 2 different needle sizes to match gauge, I recommend using the smaller size needle - but it is wise to swatch with the two yarns in colorwork, to make sure. You can also keep working with the needle that matches your main yarns (non-fuzzy ones) and just work the fuzzy stitches tighter. But this takes practice, so try a few different ways as you swatch, to see what works best for your yarns.

The approximate yarn amounts given below are only if you are using 4 colors. Because different yarns don’t behave the same, these are calculated approximations. Have a little extra on hand, just in case. You can also use as many colors as you’d like, mix and match your scraps!
